SOGEA Broadband stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. Up until now, to deliver Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) broadband to your business you needed to have a traditional phone line installed and then ADSL Broadband or Fibre Broadband provided on top of it.
BT Openreach are now delivering a single order version of Fibre Broadband and GFast Fibre Broadband that means you do not have to install a traditional copper phone line to compliment the service. SoGEA includes an underlying version of a phone line.
Future proof connectivity
One of the advantages of this are cheaper costs as you no longer have to pay separate line rental as the line is installed without a dial tone or telephone number. This is designed with 2025 in mind when BT Openreach plan to switch-off the traditional copper telephone network for voice calls. If they haven’t already, businesses will then have to adapt to cloud-based phone systems and VoIP telephony for routing all their call traffic.
